About Me
Zhongjian White is an artist based in San Antonio, Texas. She focuses on creating abstract paintings using acrylic on canvas, watercolor on canvas or paper, and ink on canvas. More recently she has started creating abstract digital art using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
She was born in 1975 in a small isolated farm village in the mountains of southwest China on the border with Vietnam where she lived until she was 16 years old. During those years she became fascinated with the rich and vibrant colors of her unspoiled natural surroundings, how the colors of the mountains, streams, forests, and sky interacted with one another, and the effect the shadows and light had on those colors.
She considered art as a career during her younger years but coming from a relatively poor financial background she was never able to receive any type of formal training as an artist. She focused instead on drawing cartoons for her own entertainment.
After moving to the United States in 2005 and marrying, she was encouraged to focus her efforts on creating art by her husband after seeing her cartoon drawings. She began to seriously teach herself various art techniques by studying the works of other artists and experimenting with various mediums.
She has traveled to the great art museums and galleries around the world to see the works of some of the great artists. Her trip to the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay in Paris in 2011 made a huge impact on her art. She was especially inspired by the Impressionists of the late 1800s with their use of brush strokes, colors, and light to capture feelings more than visual accuracy. That trip convinced her to focus her efforts mostly toward abstraction in her artwork.
